The mission of the Scottsdale Public Art Program is to make Scottsdale one of the most desirable communities in the country in which to live, work and visit by incorporating art and design projects throughout. As a central defining characteristic of our community, public art enhances Scottsdale's unique character, image and identity.
Junior Achievement is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. We believe every child deserves an education in economics and finances in order to inspire and prepare them for success in a global economy.
Our goal is to help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.
In learning these lessons, and putting them into quantifiable action, our students become intimately familiar with economics and finances. They become better prepared to assume their role in the practical world of work and responsible citizenship.
Founded in 1999, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art [SMoCA] is the only museum in Arizona devoted to the art, architecture and design of our time. Global in its focus, the Museum is a unique and vital cultural resource for the Southwest, serving local audiences as well as visitors from throughout the United States and abroad. Designed by award-winning architect Will Bruder, SMoCA's minimalist building (an ingenious renovation of a former movie theater) has five galleries for showcasing changing exhibitions and works from the Museum's growing permanent collection. SMoCA also features an outdoor sculpture garden housing James Turrell's Knight Rise, one of the renowned artist's few public skyspaces, and Scrim Wall, a monumental curtain of prismatic glass by James Carpenter Design Associates. The Museum presents a wide variety of educational programs and special events for adults and families, including lectures, docent-led tours, workshops and classes. The Store @ SMoCA offers classic design objects and furnishings, contemporary jewelry, art and architecture books and imaginative gifts for all occasions.
Leadership in Downtown Scottsdale (LIDS) DowntownScottsdale.org
We are business people and property owners, merchants, residents, and civic leaders committed to encouraging the continued evolution of Downtown Scottsdale in to a vibrant, mixed use, pedestrian oriented, safe, arts-friendly, and economically vital environment.
As Downtown Scottsdale stakeholders, we recognize that downtown Scottsdale is evolving into a vibrant mixed use community. Our Downtown evolution is the result of several factors including some visionary city plans and substantial public investment in streets, parking, public art, the canal banks, water, and sewer systems, urban plazas and parks, and public buildings. In addition, there has been substantial and essential private investment and commitment to downtown. Both this public and private participation have been critical in making Downtown Scottsdale one of the most exciting destinations in the Phoenix metro area and the southwest.
